Tournaments for A&S and Bardic Championships:

Soon the time will be upon us to choose new Glymm Mere Champions in arts and sciences and the bardic disciplines. Their Excellencies are now accepting letters of intent to compete. Said letters should be emailed to GlymmMere.Baroness@antir.org and GlymmMere.Baron@antir.org

Letters of intent are due by March 22, 2025. They are not required but are greatly appreciated as it allows us to better schedule enough time to give all of our competitors the attention they deserve.

The formats will be as follows:

Arts and Sciences - We will again be using an Atheneum-style format. You will have an area to set up your display and over the course of the competition, Their Excellencies and a team of selected advisors will come around to learn about and discuss your project. It does not need to be a historical recreation; it may be an original work in a historical style. Be prepared to tell us about the style, you are the expert here teaching us. Even if it is a historical recreation, you are still the expert teaching us. It does not need to be perfectly period materials or methods. Sometimes those materials no longer exist or are cost prohibitive. Be able to tell us what would have been used in the period the entry would have come from and why you opted for a different material or method.

Bardic - Each competitor will be expected to perform two pieces for Their Excellencies and their panel of advisors. The pieces performed may be period, historically inspired, or inspired by the SCA. Entries must be family-friendly - bawdy is period and we're down for it, but let's save it for an evening bardic. The stipulation of these two performances is that they must evoke two different emotions. Make us laugh, make us cry, make us fall in love, send us off to war, the choice is yours but they must be different from each other. The winner will also be asked to perform one or both during evening court. The type of performance is also up to the performer; recite poetry, sing, play music, tell a story, or act a scene from a play, we love live performances and are open to exploring formats.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact Their Excellencies at the above email addresses.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing the amazing talent of our populace on display.

The format for the heavy championship

Tournament Rules For Shield of the Barony Championship

Round Robin to start. Fighters have to change fighting styles between matches. Meaning that if they fight sword and shield, they can’t fight sword and shield in their second fight, but can fight sword and shield in their third etc.

Depending on numbers of fighters there will be a top four fighters. These fighters will face each other in another round robin of the four. They will use the battle dice. Meaning they will need Sword and Shield, Dual Weapons, and a Great weapon. For each fight, each fighter will roll a die and will have to enter the fight with those weapons.

The final fight will be the two who end up as the winners of the second round robin of four. This will be a best three out of five with bucklers.

If we do not have enough fighters for the fatal four, we will go directly to the best of five. This will still be fought with weapon and buckler.

The format for the rapier championship:

Get ready for a night on the town!

The first round will be a tavern brawl. Single sword only. All fighters will gather in the center of the eric (around a table if space allows). Playing cards will be drawn one-by-one until a joker is drawn – we’ve got a cheater! When the cheater is revealed all bets are off. Do your best to be the last person standing in the ensuing melee. Points will be awarded for the last three standing (3, 2, or 1).

After the tavern brawl you’ll make your way home, only to be accosted by two muggers! Each fighter will face off against two others and be awarded points on how well they perform (A point for no wounds received, and a point for each mugger defeated).

Finally, you make it home from the tavern, only to find that word of your deeds has gotten around and now everyone wants to fight you. This will be a round-robin or Swiss-system depending on time and number of entrants. Bring your best, best of three, double kills will not be refought (It’s the art of defense, not the art of da-fencing!). Points will be awarded for the top three (3, 2, or 1). A tie here will be settled by another fight with the same rules.

The victor will be the person with the most points after all three rounds. In the event of a tie for first, the fighters will fight a best of five bring your best.
